myKlovr.com is a web-application that provides personalized college and career advice. Our Artificial Intelligence engine delivers expert advice to help high-school students get into better colleges. Our professional tools help working adults reevaluate their career direction, channel their passion, get training that will enable them to grow, and manage their personal finances effectively.

Position

We are looking for data analyst / scientist interns to learn and help us evolve our data product. As we are a small and dynamic team, the interns will have an opportunity to do "real" work, learn how to manage large datasets to create product features around our data and make an impact at a company which prides itself on data-driven solutions.

Internship start and end-dates are flexible. We are currently seeking applicants interested in an internship starting August to September 2020 and extending either through December 2020 or May 2021.

Internship Projects

Data Analyst / Scientist Interns may be asked to participate in one or more of the following projects, depending on their interests and skills as well as current business needs:

  • Gather and cleanse data and information from the web using modern scraping techniques
  • Manipulate data via Python and leveraging packages Numpy and Pandas to derive findings from the data
  • Model out results of school and student data using clustering and supervised learning methods
  • Manage data systems of a data-centric organization with growing business needs and vast changes
  • And more

Responsibilities

Typical projects might include helping to craft the vision for enhancing our current data systems. This involves improving our existing infrastructure, enhancing some of our models and conducting data analysis Our projects require an analytical mindset and with a penchant for numbers, statistics and programming. A technical degree is not a requirement; however, you will need to have a base knowledge of Python and some data management and manipulation skills.

Requirements

Data Analyst / Scientist Interns can come from different backgrounds so long as they are data hungry and show passion for anything around data. At the same time, applicants should be:

  • Comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced startup
  • Good communicators, ready to speak up
  • Thoughtful and inquisitive, ready to go deeper than surface observations

Team

We are a small team of 6-7 full time employees, 8-10 contractors, and 5-10 interns. For the time being, we are all working remotely, but we will return to our midtown Manhattan office when we can do so safely. Our CEO has led multiple technology products from concept to operating business to acquisition. Our sales and marketing teams are equally accomplished. We also have a loving company golden retriever, Prada, who visits and inspires us all.

The position reports to the Head of Data Science and Analytics who has spent the past decade building analytical platforms and providing data services leadership to startups and large companies like Bloomberg and Digitas.

Compensation and Benefits

This is an unpaid internship although we offer a $100/month stipend to cover commuting expenses. Interns should be available at least two half-days per week to work in our office in Midtown Manhattan.

We have a highly participative, collegial, business casual work environment, a small team where everyone’s input is sought and their impact felt, and we get occasional visits from our office dog, a very friendly and gentle golden retriever.
